Hugo Stenbecks Stiftelse (the Hugo Stenbeck's Foundation) was founded in 1962 by Hugo Stenbeck. The foundation was created to support education and care for children, youth, the sick and the elderly in Sweden.
In 2008, Sophie Stenbeck, president of HSS, took the initiative to find a new direction for the foundation, with a stronger focus on social entrepreneurship. The foundation's mission is particularly to support social entrepreneurs who strive to solve social problems through new ideas and innovative solutions.
The foundation has also chosen to concentrate upon innovative ideas and methods that strive to strengthen children and youth’s right to play. Children who play have fun, but their play also gives them opportunity to develop as independent, creative and enterprising citizens of the world.

Hugo Stenbeck (1890–1977), lawyer and co-founder, president and chairman of Kinnevik, founded Hugo Stenbecks Stiftelse in 1962 with the purpose to support education and care for children, youth, the sick and the elderly in Sweden. Today the foundation primarily supports social entrepreneurs that contribute to children's right to play, through its cooperation with Playing for Change.
